HOW THE BRITS ROCKED AMERIKA

RUNNING TIME: 180 MIN.

SETLIST:
Part 1: How the West Was Won
British bands' attempts to find success in the USA, beginning in the 1960s,
the decade in which acts including the Beatles, the Hollies, Herman's
Hermits and the Animals found fame on both sides of the Atlantic. The documentary examines how British musicians and American audiences became fascinated by each other's cultures, and features contributions by Paul McCartney, Graham Nash,Peter Noone, Eric Burdon, Donovan and Mickey Dolenz.

Part 2: Stairway to Heaven
How British bands thrived amid the culture of excess that began to
dominate rock music in the 1970s. The programme examines how Cream broke into the American market during the late 1960s, before Led Zeppelin achieved even
greater success at the start of the 1970s, fundamentally altering the
sound of rock as a result. The programme also recalls the 1974 California Jam, where acts
including Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Emerson, Lake & Palmer
played to an estimated crowd of one million people, and charts the rise of arena rock concerts during the decade. With contributions by Jimmy Page, Jack Bruce, Paul
McCartney, Tony Iommi, John Lord, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman and Jeff Lynne.

Part 3: We re the Kids in America
The Sex Pistols' American tour of 1978 might not have been a commercial
success but it would set the tone and attitude for a new wave of British
rock in the USA, while Duran Duran would lead a new pop invasion in
the 80s. With contributions from John Lydon and Robert Smith.

DVD INFO:
How the Brits Rocked America
Go West is a 3 Part Music Documentary Series
Celebrating the 50 Year narrative of British Music in America.

This series tells the story of the inter-continental exchange of musical ideas, of how the two nations have, and continue to, influence each other's unique sound. It features choice archive footage from The Beatles' iconic arrival in the US, through Cream, The Who and Led Zeppelin live on the road, and to the Sex Pistols' last US gig in San Francisco and Elvis Costello and the Attractions' career-boosting appearance on Saturday Night Live.

It also includes first-hand testimonies from artists across the decades talking about their experiences, from the pilgrim fathers of British rock, including Sir Paul McCartney, Jimmy Page and Jack Bruce, to the latter-day contenders to their throne, the likes of John Lydon, Robert Smith, Simon Le Bon and Adam Ant, who recall how they coped with the challenge of cracking the behemoth that is the US.

New York und London. Sie beginnt in Eugene im westlichen Oregon. Dort steht

Filmemacher Christoph Dreher will auf seiner Reise
Musikkritiker Simon Reynolds.

LONDON ROCK
A DOKUMENTARY FROM 1970

RUNNING TIM;E: 47 MIN.

SETLIST:
'London Rock' is a fascinating documentary that until only a few years
ago was presumed wiped or missing. However, we can reveal that the hour
long film exists and is due to be broadcast for the first time in 40 years this weekend on Sky Arts 1! The promotional blurb states:

"Many of the new sounds of the 70's looked to the past for inspiration.
Kenny Jones admits the Faces focused a lot on "where we grew up and used
to play on bombs," others looked even further back, drawing inspiration from mythology, legend and traditional songs.

Following artists including T-Rex, the Faces, Fairport Convention and
Matthew's Southern Comfort, London Rock examines the personal nature
of putting down a track. Charting a musical journey from the dawn solstice ceremony at Stonehenge, through lazy afternoons writing lyrics in the open
air, to city life in Portobello Road, and the spirit of a sleepless music festival
in Bath, it provides an insight into the new sounds that emerged in
the Seventies, while examining the philosophy of its young musicians and
their early thoughts on music and stardom."

LIVE AID, BBC DOKUMENTARY
17.3.1985 ROCKIN ALL OVER THE WORLD

RUNNING TIME: 90 MIN.

SETLIST:
Documentary telling the story of the day that music rocked the world.
Bob Geldof recalls how, after 12 weeks of manic preparation,
the big day finally arrived. But would it work, would the punters watch,
and more importantly would they part with their cash?

Bob Geldof and his team recall their fear of how the whole thing
might fall apart at any minute. Stars from the day it self.

Elton John, Queen, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, U2
and a whole host of others - remember walking out to face
A crowd of 72,000 and a global audience of billions.
And those who watched it at home, including Tony Blair, JK Rowling
and Helen Fielding, recall how they didn't miss a minute of this
extraordinary event.

This special showcases the punditry of many of Rock & Roll'selder statesmen. The format assembles numerous
clips frominterviews, and supports them with music
videos and live performance snippets to focus on
specific topics. It is an ambitious project that succeeds because of the wealth of resources,
and what must have been hours of laborious editing.
The list of artists interviewed reads like the
"Who's Who" of
Rock & Roll royalty. Informative and entertaining.

Krautrock: The Rebirth of Germany

Documentary which looks at how a radical Generation of
Musicians created a new German musical identity out of the
Cultural ruins of war.

Between 1968 and 1977 Bands like Neu!,
Can, Faust and Kraftwerk would look beyond western rock
And roll to create some of the most original and uncompromising
Music ever heard. They shared one common goal
A forward-looking desire to transcend Germany's gruesome past
But that didn't stop the music press in war-obsessed Britain from
Calling them Krautrock.
